Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation"se'lena Kinta'nija Peres" April 16, 1971 – March 31 1995) was an American Tejano singer. The "Queen Tejano music", her contributions in fashion and music have made her one of the most well-known entertainers from Mexico ever. In 2020, Billboard magazine put her in the third spot in their ranking of "Greatest Latino Artists of All Time", based on both Latin albums and the Latin charts of songs. In her selection of clothes media outlets dubbed her the Tejano Madonna. Her choices in clothing also make her one of the most important Latin artists. Quintanilla and Suzette Quintanilla. In the 1980s, she frequently criticised for her singing Tejano music which was a genre of music that was predominantly male. Additionally, she was refused performances at Texas venues. After being awarded the Tejano Music Award in 1987 for Female Vocalist, she began to gain recognition. In 1989 she signed with EMI Latin and released her debut album, Entre a Mi Mundo (1992). Her brother was her primary music producer and writer. Entre a Mi Mundo was a top-ranked album on the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums charts for eight consecutive weeks. It was hailed by music critics as being the "breakthrough" album of her career. One of the singles, "Como la Flor", became one of her most listened-to song titles. Live! Live! Amor Prohibido became one the most sought-after Latin albums in the United States in 1994. The album was widely acclaimed for being the first Tejano music album that was commercially viable, and it quickly became one the most sought-after Latin subgenres of Latin music at the time.
